THE GOAL
Establish visual assets for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation (OVCRI) to broadly represent innovation, impact, and the university’s diverse research areas, providing creative tools for both internal and external communications.
This was an ongoing process of collecting and creating design elements we repeatedly used across projects. I led the development of multiple asset libraries, art directing student designers, who played a crucial role in a hand-drawn illustration library generated from research-area inspiration, and a “stamps” library that paired photo references with graphic elements. These flexible resources allowed our team, and other marketing professionals, to communicate OVCRI’s broad research initiatives effectively and creatively.
An office renovation that led to hundreds of hand-drawn illustrations to help showcase the breadth of research at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign…
This large library of loosely drawn illustrations was the first asset library for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation (OVCRI). When I first started as a designer in OVCRI I noticed a recurring challenge; visually supporting research in a way that represents the arts and humanities, science and technology, and everything in between.
